The Debate Board Forums Terms Of Service

No personal attacks - You can say anything you want about public/political figures, ideologies, policies, etc., but refrain from personal attacks on fellow board members.
Do NOT carry anger from this board over to The Territory website. IF you get reprimanded or banned there for not following the rules the same penalties will carry over here. We WILL NOT allow this forum to be a detriment to that community. If you cannot keep your political, religious, philosophical discussions and attacks limited to this forum you should not attempt to post on The Territory. Let this be the place to vent your frustrations, criticize belief systems and even ridicule political parties.

What you cannot do here is attack individuals. THERE ARE NO PERSONAL ATTACKS ALLOWED - you cannot say 'You are an asshole' or even 'Then that makes you an asshole.' That is very different than saying something like 'It seems that claiming to be a Christian and supporting an individual who supports abortion is hypocritical. How can you justify that position?' Questioning positions or beliefs is not a personal attack. 'I think anyone who supports kneeling during the national anthem is being anti-American' is not a personal attack, even if you personally hold that position. Attacking politicians and the positions they espouse is certainly fine and is not a personal attack on any individual who supports them. That comes with the job description that every one of them signed up for and attacking a person of the party you support isn't an attack on you. Questioning the credibility of your preferred sources for information is not a personal attack. We should all seek second and third source verification of all types of information and being asked to provide such is not an attack on you, it is questioning the source that provided you with that information.

There are definitely nuanced differences and just because you have been offended does not mean that you were attacked. The moderators will be clear on the differences and will articulate justifications on any decisions made impacting both individuals and the community as a whole. Keeping your criticisms generalized and not personalized will inevitably allow you to keep you posting here. If you cannot handle that and feel that you must single/call-out individuals, you will be removed from this forum and you are free to go post elsewhere.

Passionate debate and contentious discussion are fine and even welcome, we can all learn from it. Be informed about your opinions and be prepared to explain why you feel as strongly as you do and where you found information upon which you based your sentiments. Degrading and attacking individuals for their beliefs and opinions, instead of criticizing/questioning the beliefs they hold, is not acceptable. Someone asking you to give support or justification for your own positions is not an attack. If you cannot defend your own beliefs, then perhaps you do not hold them with the conviction you displayed.
